Rohit is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur(1999), and now wears many different hats as historian of science and mathematics, writer, artist, technologist and lecturer. His work on blogs and SMS-technology during the 2004 tsunami hit headlines around the world. Gupta’s later projects have been featured in media such as BBC and Wired. His workshops have ranged across a wide spectrum of themes – theory of prime numbers, geometry, the history of astronomy, cartography, navigation, astrophysics, optics 3D printing and hobby electronics. He is popularly known as Compasswallah, a slang for British surveyors in 19th century India who conducted the Great Trigonometrical Survey, the most audacious scientific project of its time.
