The Central Government has taken a a serious note of the alleged fraud on a massive scale involving more than 32 lakh debit cards. It has asked the Reserve Bank of India and the concerned banks to submit a report related to the breach of security.
More than 600 customers are believed to be already duped of Rupees 1.3 crore through stolen data, according to the National Payments Corporation of India.
The Government has, however, maintained that strong action will be taken and that interests of the customers will not be harmed.
Its believed that the Government has been provided with a preliminary report and is currently awaiting more details in this aspect.
Out of the total number of debit cards affected by the breach, around 26.5 lakhs are on Visa and MasterCard platforms. As many as 6 lakh cards are believed to be on RuPay.
