Padma Bhushan TN Krishnan, violin player will perform tomorrow in the series of ‘Music in the Park’ at the Central Park in Jaipur. The event has been organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan along with the Jaipur Development Authority and Spic Macay. This is in line with the department’s initiative to strengthen Rajasthan’s position as one of the most favoured destinations of choice for tourists around the world.
Krishnan was born in Tripunithura, Kerala to an Iyer family. He learned his music from his father and was later mentored by Alleppy K. Parthasarathy a great patron of Music and Sishya of Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar then he later joined Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer as his student. Later he became a professor of Music at a music college in Chennai and then became the Dean of the ‘School of Music and Fine Arts’ at the University of Delhi.
TN Krishnan as a child prodigy made his debut concert at the age of eight and at a very young age had accompanied legends like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Musiri Subramania Iyer, Alathur Brothers, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar and Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer.
Krishnan has been awarded the ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi’ Award in 1974 ‘Sangeetha Kalanidhi’ in 1980 ‘Padma Shri’ in 1973 and the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 1992 by the Government of India. He has also received the ‘Sangeetha Kalasikhamani’ award for the year 1999 was given by ‘The Indian Fine arts Society’, Chennai.
