Pakistan – born actor Marc Anwar lost his acting job in ‘Coronation Street’ over tweets targeting Indians, which were construed as racially offensive.

Anwar had reportedly posted a series of racist tweets attacking India on the issue of Kashmir and also asking Pakistani actors to stop working in India.

Allegedly, the tweets targeting Indians which were construed as racial in nature, were subsequently deleted. Forty – five year old Anwar has been dismissed. He will no longer play the role of Sharif Nazir in the long – running soap, Coronation Street.

The ITV, later on, issued a statement on Marc Anwar’s dismissal. The statement mentioned,

“We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar.”

The statement also mentioned,

“We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”
