PV Sindhu : India’s Medal Hopeful

Shuttler PV Sindhu is now India’s next hope after wrestler Sakshi Malik wins bronze medal for in 58kg category at the Olympics.

After causing a stunning upset by defeating the number 2 Chinese player Wang Yihan, Sindhu has reached the Semi finals of the Women Singles event at the Olympics 2016. Here are some key points:

# India’s PV Sindhu defeated World number two Wang Yihan of China in straight sets. She defeated the Chinese player 22-20, 21-19.

# Wang Yihan, who was comprehensively defeated by Sindhu in the quarterfinal, had won Silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

# With the victory over the Chinese player in the quarterfinals, Sindhu has become only the second Indian woman player to reach Olympics semi final after Saina Nehwal.

# Sindhu will play her semi – final match against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara on the 18th of August.

# PV Sindhu had reached the quarterfinals after a convincing victory in the pre – quarterfinals over Tai Tzu Ying.

# Sindhu is coached by Pulella Gopichand.

# She has been trained at Hyderabad’s Gopichand Badminton Academy.

# Sindhu began training in Badminton at the age of eight.

# Both parents of Sindhu have been Volleyball players.

# At the 2014 Common Wealth Games, Sindhu had managed to reach the semi – finals.
