From next session, M. Tech students shall have to appear in the Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) for their viva-voce rather than their own colleges, and their guides shall accompany them there. Moreover, the final viva-voce and interview shall take place in presence of RTU representatives.
Till date, the affiliate colleges were holding the viva-voce for M. Tech leading to many anomalies due to such an arrangement. It was being noticed that many engineering colleges were either helping their students in clearing M. Tech or they were being too liberal in awarding marks. It was noticed that more than 70% of the students who secured less than 50% in written exam were scoring as high as 90% in viva-voce.
Making the presence of guides compulsory along with the students during their viva is with a view to curb the ghost guides that some colleges have been reported to have shown only on papers. From now on, the guides will have to be present before the RTU panel and have to convince the panelists that they have been the guide of concerned student.
Tech is a two year technical course. The students in their second year are required to work on some project and write a thesis based on it under the guidance of a guide/teacher. Fake or ghost guides mar the very spirit of this highly prestigious course.
