In last few years, Jaipur has grabbed some serious attention from the stakeholders and investors, transforming the city into a Startup hub. Unlike other cities, the growth of startup ecosystem in Jaipur is organic.

It becomes the bridge between startups and entrepreneurs in Rajasthan and funds, investors from Bangalore to Silicon Valley. TiE through its five pillars of Incubation, Education, Networking, Mentoring and Funding has been fostering entrepreneurship in Rajasthan for last 15 years.
3rd edition of its flagship event for startups ‘TiE SMASH UP 2017’ was organised by TiE Rajasthan on 3rd Nov – Saturday, 4th Nov 2017 at Jaipur. Smash Up is the most exiting – high octane entrepreneurial gathering of the Pink City.
Smash Up was an unconference designed for early stage entrepreneurs focusing on peer learning from contemporary founders. The format is conducive to creating an informal yet high energy interactive environment, by keeping the main agenda devoid of lengthy speeches, presentations, ‘big boy’ talks and anything that qualifies as 30,000 feet wisdom.
Rehan Yar Khan, Managing Partner at Orios Venture Partners speaking as the Keynote Speaker during the program shared his views with Startups on raising capital and the areas an investors looks for while making an investment decision. He also shred his experience of investments in companies like Ola and Druva at their early stages. He further elaborated the importance of Product Market Fit, Customer Satisfaction for a startup to raise adequate funds.
Sanjay Agrawal, MD, AU Small Finance Bank in an exclusive talk during ‘My Story’ session shared story of his business growing from scratch to its present status of small bank. He disclosed his success mantra for employee engagement, work life balance, maintaining competitive advantage and growing up progressively. He specially highlighted importance of a meticulous and dedicated team’s support to achieve one’s entrepreneurial dreams.
Startup Tales Sessions with successful and emerging startups from Jaipur and outside were addressed by Nishant Patni, Founder, Culture Alley (Jaipur); Aditya Gandhi, Director, Redwood Edutours (Nagpur); Devendra Agrawal, Founder, Dexter Capital (Mumbai, Bangalore); Dhruv Khanna, CEO, Data Resolve (Gurgaon); Vishwas Shringi, Founder & CEO, Voylla (Jaipur) and Prafulla Mathur, Founder, Wudstay (Jaipur) and Chirag Patel, CEO, KOOH Sports (Mumbai). Listening to the journeys, experiences, success stories and not so successful strategies of these young entrepreneurs gave hands on experience to the budding startups.
A special Panel Discussion – Investor’s Perspective with prominent investors of the country was joined by Anil Joshi, Managing Partner at Unicorn India Ventures; Sunil Goyal, MD at Your Nest Venture; and Harshad Lahoti, Founding Partner of Ah Ventures. Mahavir Sharma, Trustee – TiE Global, Past President – TiE Rajasthan & Chairman – RAIN moderated this session. The session focussed on topics like what future holds for Startups and the Indian Venture Capital outlook 2020, next level with interaction on Artificial intelligence, Augmented reality, Virtual reality, IOT devices and social impact, environment conserving tech based startups B2B vs B2C investments.
While the first day of Smash Up was dedicated to pitches and investments where meticulously curated 25+ startups out of over 200 applications met 15+ investors invited from across the country, the top five of these startups made pitches for Smasher Award on the second day.
The Smasher Award Jury consisting of Rajat Agrawal, MD, Gravita India Ltd; Anurag Jain, Co-Founder, Cardekho.com and Nishant Patni, Founder, Culture Alley decalred Amit Jain of Bijson Innovations winner of the Smasher Award 2017. Awards to the winners of Stupreneurs programs were also conferred during the program.
A special Mentoring Camp was also organised at Smash Up by TiE Navigaotrs where experienced mentors provided unbiased guidance to budding entrepreneurs in one on one interaction.
Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Trustee, TiE Global elaborates that Disruption in existing businesses is the key to innovation, success and giving consumers new technologies for far cheaper price. He said that Smash-up is also a disruptive conference, where unlike Gyan conferences the interaction, presentations are in a very informal format. TiE Smashup aims to create an atmosphere where ideas mature into action plans and look to be inspired by stories of success as well as not so successful strategies.
