The medal won by Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt at the 2012 London Olympics, as confirmed by him, has been upgraded from Bronze to Silver.
The development is an outcome of Russian sportsperson Besik Kudukhov testing positive for a dope test conducted by World Anti – Doping Agency. Kudukhov had passed away in a car crash in Southern Russia in 2013, the year following the 2012 London Olympics.
Following the development, Yogeshwar Dutt may become the second recipient of Silver medal from India alongwith Sushil Kumar with regard to 2012 London Olympics.
Yogeshwar Dutt, who was one of the major hopefuls for a medal before the Rio Olympics began, had a disappointing stint at this year’s Olympics in Brazil. He was out of the competition after losing in his first match itself in men’s 65 kg freestyle category. He lost 3 – 0 to Ganzorigiin of Mongolia.
The Wrestler was awarded with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2012. He was also conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government in 2013 and had won Gold Medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He had also won Gold in the Asian Games held in 2014.
