“If we regularly practice pranayama and asanas, we can minimize illness around us. Yoga plays an important role in promoting health. I urge all the people in the nation to practice yoga and those too who have never tried it.” Quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Fourth International Yoga Day. He addressed over 50,000 volunteers in Dehradun today morning. In his address at Forest Research Institute, the Prime Minister said, “people across the country are welcoming the sun today. From Dehradun to Dublin, there’s only Yoga.” Indians should be proud of their traditions and only then will the world be proud of them.
Yoga Day was celebrated enthusiastically all over the world today. While the world joins India in the celebrations and performs asanas, Ramdev baba along with Vasundhara Raje, CM of Rajasthan set up a world record in Kota, Rajasthan with the largest number of people performing yoga together. While the record was created at 1.05 lakh and the counting of participants was still going on as it was estimated that nearly 2 lakh people were present for the mass yoga camp. The numbers were counted through set standard and drone cameras. A total of 4, 500 inspectors were deputed to keep a close eye over the Yoga performance
Executive officers in India on behalf of the Guinness Book of World Record — Swapneel and Ribika from London — presented the certificate of world record to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Ramdev.
Meanwhile, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu participated as a chief guest at an event in Mumbai. Several Union Ministers also joined the celebrations in different parts of the country.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh participated in the event at Lucknow, Nitin Gadkri in Nagpur, Ravi Shankar Prasad in Patna, Piyush Goyal in Noida, Ananth Kumar in Bangalore and Rajyavardhan Rathore in Jaipur.
In Delhi, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi participated in a Yoga session organized for pregnant women while Union Minister Harsh Vardhan joined the event at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park.
Around the world, yoga postures were displayed through laser light beams on UN Secretariat wall to commemorate International Day of Yoga 2018, in New York, US and Indian Embassy in Japan celebrated on International Yoga Day 2018 on 19th June.
