Improving indigenous breed of bovine and milk production through Embryo Transplant Technique

Embryo Transplant Technique is an excellent technique to promote of indigenous breeds of milch cattle and for improving milk production. The Animal Husbandry and Gopalan department secretary Krishna Kunal said the milk producers’ unions play an important role in achieving the objective of increasing the state’s indigenous milch cattle breeds. The number of female bovines will increase through this technique and it will also reduce the number of stray cattle on roads, he added.

Kunal said that the chief minister is committed to protect the cattle rearers and livestock of the state. He also put a proposal of opening a Semen Station in the state before the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Rajasthan is promoting the best milk producing bovine and in such a situation, a semen station in Rajasthan should also be opened on the lines of Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala Semen Station. He directed the officers of the department to soon present an action plan to carry this technique to the farmers.

Department official Dr SP Singh through a presentation informed that this scheme is proving to be a boon for cattle rearers of states such as Punjab and Haryana. He said that through this technique, embryos of male and female of high quality are made and implanted in female indigenous breeds, which is known as the surrogate mother. Besides this, there are chances of 90% of female cattle being born through this technique, due to which there will be less burden of male bovine on the cattle rearers and their means of employment will develop.

Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation (RCDF) managing director Sushma Arora said that this year the Saras Dairy has set a record of collecting 43 lakh kilogram of milk in one day. This has happened for the first time in the 45-year history of RCDF. She said that the day is not far when Rajasthan will be in the first position in milk production and also thanked the representatives of milk producers’ unions.

Ajmer district milk producers’ union president Ram Chandra said that milk producers of the state are getting economic and social support through the Mukhyamantri Dugdh Utpadak Sambal Yojana and this scheme is proving to be a milestone. In this scheme, the milk producers are given a subsidy of Rs 5 per litre of milk and 5 lakh milk producers will get around Rs 550 crore.

It is to be mentioned that NDDB has made Gopalan department the implementing institution for the Accelerated Breed Improvement Programme to Establish Pregnancy with IVF Embryos Produced Using Sexed Semen in Cattle and Buffaloes (ABIP-IVF-ET) with an objective to protect and promote bovine in the state.
