India is now one of the largest IT capitals of the world. All the major IT players of the world have a presence in India. Because of the growth in electronic manufacturing in India and the success of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for mobile phones, the government had approved PLI Scheme-2.0 for IT hardware in May 2023. The plan covers laptops, tablets, allin-one PCs, servers and ultra-small form factor devices. The government has approved the applications of 27 IT hardware manufacturers.
With the commencement of IT hardware manufacturing by renowned companies in India, about 2 lakh employment opportunities including 50 thousand direct ones will be created. IT hardware worth about Rs 3.50 lakh crore will be produced for which companies will invest about Rs 3,000 crore. Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that out of these 27 applicants, 23 are ready to start manufacturing immediately.
