Investors worth Rs. 2500 Crores interacted with start ups of Rajasthan on the first day of TiE Smash Up 2019. The event also witnessed speakers from across the country sharing their Start-Up journey and motivating the budding start ups on the next day. It is noted that TiE Smash Up has so far supported 1000+ aspiring entrepreneurs, hosted 40 sessions with more than 100 speakers and connected more than 50 investor networks to curate start ups.
A remarkable programme by TiE Rajasthan to assist the next-gen entrepreneurs and to provide them an opportunity to pitch their business idea to serious investors,
Two-day ‘TiE SMASH UP 2019’ was organised on November 5-6, 2019 at Jaipur by TiE Rajasthan to assist the next-gen entrepreneurs and to provide them opportunity to pitch their business idea to serious investors. The 5th edition of event themed MAVERICK provided start ups an opportunity to interact with and listen to the start up stories from the successful founders. TiE Rajasthan through Smash Up celebrates entrepreneurial journeys of startup founders who had had the courage to think unconventionally. Smash Up helps the gen-next of entrepreneurs through investment opportunities, mentoring, networking and learning.
The first day witnessed 24-curated StartUps ‘Deep Date with Investors’ from pan India where every start up had an opportunity to interact and pitch their ideas to 14 investors including Mumbai Angels, Rajasthan Angel Innovators Network (RAIN), TiE India Angels, Indian Angels Network, The Investment Trust of India, Unicorn Ventures, Startup Oasis, Let’s Venture, Kyt Ventures, ah! Ventures, Lead Angels, Artha Venture Fund, Pacific Gaming, Key Ventures etc. Each of the StartUp was given 15 minutes each where for initial seven minutes they had to pitch their ideas to the investor followed by a question and answer session for next seven minutes. At the end of the 14 minutes, StartUp moved to the next investor and last one minute was given to investor to rate them for the pitch and presentation.
The start ups selected for the investor pitch session were from various segments like Waste Management, Textiles, Education, Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, E-learning, Energy, Agritech, E-Commerce and Fintech and included start-ups like “Dressfolk”, “Evolvenext”, “FunEduLearn”, “Meddelivery”, “Pikprint”, “Pranam Kisan”, “Hello VoRld” “Studybase” etc.
“Deep Dating with Investors allow selected start ups a chance to meet more and more investors under one roof. In this unique program for start ups, we are determined to share our journey and experiences with the committed entrepreneurs’ community in the region for emerging entrepreneurs. We are sure that it will definitely benefit in the near future from the transaction of ideas between the giants and our entrepreneurs” said Chirag Patel, President, TiE Rajasthan. He further said that, “We also think that TiE Rajasthan mentors and partners have curated the start ups well leading to a high success ratio of investible ideas.”
Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Vice Chair, TiE Global said, “We believe about 25% of start ups that pitched during the programme have an investible plan and there is a high probability that more than 1 investor network will pool-in and co-invest in these start ups.”
Day 2 the event featured Maverick Speaker Talks, Mentoring Sessions and Crazy Talk etc. During the Marverick Session, sharing his experiences while preparing for IIT in Kota, Sumit Jain, Co-Founder & CEO, Open Talk said that before leaving for Kota, he was an average student but undivided focus on studies changed his perspective and therefore he cracked IIT. He further shared that with one year of undivided focus and attention towards your working pattern you can do anything in your life. With his own experiences, he defined that sometimes loosing is also winning. He also shared his successful learning from commonfloor.com to building a social voice conversation app – ‘Open Talk’.
Talking about automobile sector at large, Nikunj Sanghi, Chairman, Automotive Skill Development Council said, “Automobile sector has always been in news because it excites the public. It is the core component in the Indian economy and this is the only sector in Indian economy that contributes 49% in the manufacturing sector of Indian GDP and 8% in the overall GDP.” Talking about the disruptions in the industry, he said, “Disruptions coming in the automobile sector in next two years will be such that have never been seen in the history in last 100 years or so. Electric vehicles, shared vehicles etc. are reality and they will change the way we live our lives now.” He further said that electronic vehicles will influence our lifestyles and the way we commute on daily basis. According to him, an electronic car owner will have to plan his whole day in advance and that there will be in-built applications in car that will take care of the entire human needs.
‘Smasher Pitches & Award’ followed the speaker sessions in which selected five start ups presented a three-minute pitch to the Jury Members. Dhawal Jain and Aman Kumar of start up “Hello VoRld” bagged the title of Smasher Award 2019. Hello VoRld helps young furniture brands display their products to potential customers using new age technologies like AR and VR. Other selected start-ups included ‘Guitaa Technology’, ‘Flexmotiv’, ‘Dress Folk’ and ‘Evolvenext’.
Other prominent speakers for the event included, Rajesh Dembla, Kovid Chugh, Manish Kelshikar, Aditya Arora, Jasmeet Singh Anand, Mahavir Sharma, Ravi Modani, Sharvik Shah etc.
