Transgender to get various facilities and financial assistance

People from the transgender community will now be provided with the facility of education to self-employment through the transgender upliftment fund. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had announced the creation of this fund in budget 2021-22 and the objective was inclusive development of transgender. 

Social Justice and Empowerment department secretary Dr Samit Sharma said that a fund of Rs 10 crore has been made for the welfare, social and financial upliftment of the transgender community. These people will be extended various facilities and economic facilities. 

He said that people of the transgender community will be provided with the facility of education up to self-employment. Financial assistance will be provided for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships to students, upkeep allowance, reimbursement of fees and students studying outstation will also be given rent for the house. 

Dr Sharma said, “Counselling will be done at the divisional level at Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bikaner, Kota and Bharatpur to resolve various problems of the transgender community and to provide them guidance.” 

The state government is also involved in empowering the transgender by imparting free training through Skill Development. They will be provided commercial and technical training through Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation or other recognised institutions. Similarly, the state government will provide 25% of the total cost or grant of Rs 50,000 as financial assistance, whichever is less, to the people of this community for self-employment, the official informed.  

Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) will be done free of cost for which financial assistance of a maximum of Rs 2.50 lakh will be given. It is to be mentioned that the transgender population in Rajasthan is 16,517 and the literacy rate is 48.34% as per the census 2011.

Member of Transgender Welfare Board and founder of Nai Bhor Sanstha Pushpa Mai said, “We made the SOP, which the government approved. We had asked for SRS, counselling centres, transgender ID cards, scholarships, loan for self-employment, community centres etc and the government has agreed to it.”

She said, “We are happy that the government is listening to us and working with the committee.”

Mai further added that SRS is not available in Rajasthan, as expert doctors are not available here. At present SRS is being done in Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.

It is to be mentioned that Rajasthan is the first state in the country to allocate separate funds for the welfare of the transgender community, which will be used for education, skill training, self-employment and other facilities. The transgender person for the identity card can apply online on the portal https://transgender.dosje.gov.in  of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
