The Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) organised this month was bigger and better than ever filled with glittering stones and dazzling collections, which was 16th edition. The recently concluded show was held from December 20 to 23 at Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) in Sitapura. It not only offered the latest in the gems and jewellery trade but also expanded its horizons. JJS is the country’s largest B2B and B2C jewellery show held in the Pink City.
Held annually, the event is a complete exposition with diamonds, colour stones, precious metals – silver, gold, base metals-carving and beads being showcased and marketed. JJS today marks the perfect blend of contemporary and ethnic designs, modified to suit demands in domestic as well as international markets. A special feature of JJS is that one can find precious and semi-precious stone, silver artefacts, machinery to Jewellery institutions – all under one roof. The aptly named ‘December Show’ has fast become one of the most recognized jewellery expositions in the country.
In the past, JJS has attracted large number of visitors and the numbers continue to grow each year. This year, over 40,000 domestic and outstation visitors witnessed the grand show. The country’s top 500 retailers participated in the show and picked up the latest in the gem and jewellery industry for their exclusive clientele. The show hosted more than 800 stalls.
Theme of JJS
The theme of the show has always been a special feature of the show and this year the theme for JJS was ‘Inspire to create a Fashion Statement’. In the past years, the themes have been centralised on different stones and jewellery items including rubies, emeralds, tanzanite, Kundan Meena, gems and diamond jewelry.
Genesis of JJS
To go back to its genesis – JJS had a humble beginning in 2003 with only 67 stalls at Entertainment Paradise (EP). However, it has witnessed sustained growth owing to encouraging response, interaction and zeal of the participants.
The present venue in Sitapura provides huge exhibition halls with area of more than 2,00,000 sq.ft. There is a convention hall with all the facilities for seminars, workshops and inaugural sessions and lunch sessions with inter connecting tunnel with LED display.
JJS has emerged as an important forum for learning and disseminating technical knowledge and skills through its ‘Knowledge Sessions’. This year too there were important seminars on topics like ‘Business Ethics’, ‘Retail Inventory: How Much is Too Much?’ and ‘Composite importance of Fashion and Social Media on the Jewellery Industry’.
‘JJS-IJ Jewellers’ Choice Design Awards’
‘JJS-IJ Jewellers’ Choice Design Awards’ is a much looked forward to event of the Show. On 20 December evening there was a glittering function at JECC where the awards were given away. Year after year, this award has honoured the country’s best in design and creativity. Renowned Bollywood actress, Vani Kapoor was present on the occasion and the show was conducted by TV actor-presenter, Sumona Chakravarti and Kiku Sarda. The who’s who of the gem and jewellery industry attended the event.
Jaipur Jewellery Design Festival (JJDF)
To celebrate and promote designers in all its glory, JJS hosted the Jaipur Jewellery Design Festival (JJDF) for the third time this year. The festival was spread in about 2000 sq.ft of the area and had multifold activities including product display by female contemporary jewellery designers of India, augmented reality mirror wall, cafeteria, and live music.
Indology Channel LIVE from JJS
As a new feature of JJS this year, India’s Largest Curated Jewellery & Style Destination – Indology was LIVE from JJS. The TV jewellery experts offered an array of style to its customers across the country. The channel through a LIVE studio did daily showcases and displayed around 30 products which were then sold across the country to the 5 million viewers of the channel.
It is to be noted the Board of Director’s meeting of All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) was also be held during the show in Jaipur.
