Jaipur girl gets scholarship in world’s No. 1 varsity


Mrigi Munjal, from Jaipur, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has made the Pink City proud. She has got admission in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge (USA) with a scholarship of approximately Rs 3.25 crore. Mrigi will now pursue either her Master’s or Ph.D in material sciences from MIT.

She also got an admission in University of Oxford, England but she chose MIT. Speaking to Changing Tomorrow, Mrigi said, “I chose MIT because the peer group is better and there are more opportunities.”

Dr Manish Munjal, her father, is a Critical Care Expert in Jaipur, while her mother, Dr Rita Munjal is a dentist and her sister is a pathologist. Hailing from a family of doctors, Mrigi wanted to build a different skill set for herself. Therefore, she decided to opt for Materials Science and Engineering from IIT-B. At present, she is working on nano technology.

She also received a scholarship from Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY). It is to mention that her cousin, Gaurav Munjal has set up ‘Unacademy’, an online education platform which is the sixth largest company in the world.

Replying to a question on settling in the USA or returning to India, she said, “I will work for a few years in the US and then come to India. The market there is saturated, while there is a huge scope in India in Clean Technology.”

Prior to signing off, her message for the youth was ‘Aim high and don’t lose self-confidence’.
