
India’s rich military heritage, unmatched bravery and cutting-edge defence capabilities were celebrated in grand style as the Indian Army marked its 78th Army Day in Jaipur on Thursday. The occasion featured a majestic parade along Mahal Road, Jagatpura, and a spectacular evening programme titled “Shaurya Sandhya” at SMS Stadium. For the first time in history, the Army Day Parade was held in a civilian area, bringing the celebration closer to the public.
Governor Haribhau Bagade witnessed the parade and lauded the Indian Army’s tradition of indomitable courage, valour and supreme sacrifice, extending warm wishes to serving soldiers, officers, veterans, Veer Naris and their families. “Every Indian feels proud of one of the world’s finest armies,” he said, also highlighting the Army’s decisive action during Operation Sindoor. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, senior military officers and civil dignitaries were also present.
Historic Parade Outside Military Area
This marked the fourth occasion that the Army Day Parade was hosted outside Delhi and the first time Rajasthan had the honour. Thousands of citizens, veterans, youth and students gathered along the three-kilometre parade route to witness the display of military precision, discipline and technological prowess.
Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi inspected the parade and took the salute, with Lieutenant General Harvinder Singh, Chief of Staff of South Western Command, leading the procession. The display featured marching contingents from seven regiments, beautifully emblazoned military bands, and decorated soldiers including distinguished gallantry awardees.
Showcasing Modern Military Strength
The parade highlighted India’s advanced indigenous defence systems, including BrahMos missiles, Bhishma and Arjun tanks, K-9 Vajra artillery, BMP vehicles, Pinaka rocket systems, Nag missile systems, drone tech and electric all-terrain vehicles, among others. A Girls NCC contingent highlighted the increasing role of women in defence, while the Nepal Army Band underscored India’s strong military ties with friendly nations.
Felicitations and Cultural Grandeur
Before the parade, five brave soldiers were honored posthumously with the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for exceptional bravery during Operation Sindoor and other missions. Rajasthan’s vibrant culture was showcased through folk dances such as Kachhi Ghodi, Gair and Kalbelia and the colourful Phoolon Ki Holi tableau from Bharatpur.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the gathering, said Army Day honours the courage, dedication and supreme sacrifices of soldiers who safeguard the nation. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said the operation is not yet over and India’s efforts for peace will continue until terrorist ideology is eliminated. He described Rajasthan as a land that has consistently strengthened India’s military traditions, calling the event a true tribute to soldiers.The programme featured inspiring narratives, patriotic performances, traditional martial arts and a spectacular drone show, which held the audience spellbound. Governor Haribhau Bagade and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma were present during the event.
Aerial Thrills and Grand Finale
The skies over Jaipur resonated with patriotic fervour as helicopters showered petals with the Tricolour and Tri-Services flag, followed by daring motorbike stunts by Army Service Corps riders and precision aerial passes by Jaguar fighter jets from Nal Air Base, concluding a day of inspiring celebrations.
The combined morning parade and evening Shaurya Sandhya show not only honoured the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers but also strengthened the bond between the Army and citizens, making Jaipur a proud witness to a truly historic Army Day celebration.
