Globally celebrated as the “greatest literary show on earth,” the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) is set to return for its 19th edition from January 15 to 19, 2026. Presented by Vedanta and produced by Teamwork Arts, the Festival once again promises to transform Jaipur into a vibrant hub of literature, ideas, debate and cultural exchange. The key highlights of the upcoming edition were announced at a press conference held at Hotel Clarks Amer, the long-standing venue partner of the Festival.
This year’s edition places a strong emphasis on Hindi literature, Rajasthani voices and regional cultural traditions, reaffirming the Festival’s commitment to India’s linguistic and creative diversity while continuing to engage with global conversations. Over five days, the Festival will bring together writers, poets, thinkers, policymakers, artists and public intellectuals from across continents and disciplines, creating an inclusive space for dialogue and discovery.
A Global Confluence with a Regional Heart
The 2026 edition of JLF builds upon its deep-rooted relationship with Rajasthan’s cultural ecosystem. Alongside celebrated international authors and thinkers, the Festival foregrounds Indian and regional voices, offering them a global platform. The speaker list for this edition reflects the breadth of the Festival’s ambition, featuring distinguished names from literature, politics, economics, science, philosophy, arts and popular culture. The presence of leading Indian writers, poets and public figures alongside internationally renowned voices underscores JLF’s unique position as a meeting ground of ideas across borders.
Honouring Hindi and Rajasthani Literary Traditions
Continuing its tradition of recognising literary excellence, the Festival announced the Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Award for Poetry 2026. Instituted in memory of the iconic Rajasthani and Hindi poet, freedom fighter and social reformer Kanhaiyalal Sethia, the award honours a poet whose work demonstrates lyrical excellence, moral depth and engagement with society. The award, carrying a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a citation, will be presented during a special ceremony at the Festival on January 17, 2026. The jury for the award comprises eminent literary figures, reinforcing its credibility and prestige.
Strengthening Rajasthan’s Cultural Economy
As it enters its 19th year, the Jaipur Literature Festival continues to play a significant role in supporting Rajasthan’s cultural and economic landscape. Each edition engages nearly 2,000 locally based professionals across production, logistics, hospitality, technical services and volunteer teams. Around 60 Rajasthan-based businesses contribute to various aspects of the Festival, including staging, décor, printing, crafts and food services. The popular food courts, featuring 55 to 60 stalls, remain among the most visited spaces during Festival week.
The Festival also collaborates with regional craft clusters and artisans through curated merchandise, reinforcing its commitment to local heritage and craftsmanship. During Festival days, Jaipur witnesses a noticeable economic boost, with hotels reporting near full occupancy and increased activity across restaurants, markets and transport services.
Jaipur BookMark: Publishing and Storytelling in Focus
Running parallel to the Festival, Jaipur BookMark, South Asia’s leading publishing conclave, marks its 13th edition in 2026. This year’s focus includes the Marathi language, literary translations, emerging storytelling formats and the growing influence of artificial intelligence in publishing. With The Royal Norwegian Embassy as Country Partner, Jaipur BookMark continues to foster international collaboration. Initiatives such as the India–UK Publishing Fellowship, in partnership with the British Council, aim to expand opportunities for independent publishers and strengthen cross-border exchange in the publishing industry.
Music as Storytelling
Extending beyond literature, the Jaipur Literature Festival’s cultural programme includes the popular First India News Jaipur Music Stage, which brings together contemporary and independent musical voices from across India. Complementing this is the Morning Music series, supported by the Infosys Foundation, which highlights classical, folk and regional traditions. From Rajasthani folk and Carnatic ensembles to choral traditions and experimental rhythm collectives, the music programme reflects India’s plural cultural landscape and its evolving artistic expressions.
Inclusive, Accessible and Thought-Provoking
Reiterating its commitment to inclusion, the Festival will offer sign language interpretation for select sessions in collaboration with Nupur Sansthan, ensuring wider accessibility for diverse audiences.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, said that over nearly two decades, the Jaipur Literature Festival has grown into a global forum for ideas while remaining deeply rooted in India’s intellectual and cultural life. Apurv Kumar, Managing Director of Clarks Group of Hotels, highlighted the Festival’s role as a major driver of tourism and cultural pride for Jaipur.
As the Jaipur Literature Festival 2026 approaches, it once again promises a unique celebration where books, ideas, languages and cultures come together, rooted in Rajasthan, yet resonating across the world.
