There is good news for pulmonary patients, as a new Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre has been set up at Asthma Bhawan in Jaipur.
Dr Nishtha Singh, Allergy and Chest Expert said that patients who have certain lung conditions or lung problems due to other conditions will be taught breathing techniques and lung exercises with at this centre.
She said a new pulmonary rehabilitation clinic is one of its kinds having the most advanced machinery needed for lung rehabilitation. The rehab therapy is a boon for pulmonary patients. Its importance is seen especially in diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Bronchiectasis and most recently in post COVID patients. It has been observed that many COVID survivors developed lung fibrosis in the post COVID period.
Dr Singh said that the Pulmonary Rehab centre was inaugurated by Mr Shishir Loyalka who himself was a COVID survivor. Post COVID he developed pulmonary fibrosis and was kept on oxygen for 50 days. With the help of pulmonary rehabilitation, he is now off oxygen and leading a normal life. Moreover this useful facility is going to be provided free of cost to all patients at Asthma Bhawan, she added.
She said that the post COVID period is marked by increasing breathlessness and decreasing oxygen saturation especially on slight exertion. This is the time when pulmonary rehabilitation has shown very good results, especially at the fact that medicines have a limited role in the post COVID period.
