The historic town of Sambhar, home to the world-famous Sambhar Salt Lake, is set to transform into a vibrant tourism hub with the grand organisation of Sambhar Mahotsav 2025, scheduled from December 27 to 31, 2025. Organised by the Rajasthan Tourism Department, the five-day festival aims to offer visitors a unique blend of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, natural beauty and adventure tourism experiences.
Envisioned as more than a traditional cultural event, Sambhar Mahotsav 2025 aligns with Rajasthan’s strategy to promote experience-based and year-round tourism, while establishing Sambhar as a prominent destination on both the national and international tourism map. The festival builds on the strong success of the January 2024 edition, which attracted a large influx of tourists from Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai, along with international visitors, giving the event significant global visibility. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, the Tourism Department has planned a larger and more comprehensive edition this year.
Deputy Director, Tourism, Upendra Singh Shekhawat, stated that the festival is being developed in accordance with the vision of Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, with a focus on showcasing Rajasthan’s rich folk traditions, artistic excellence and unique natural landscapes to a global audience. He added that structured efforts are underway to elevate Sambhar Mahotsav into one of India’s major international tourism festivals in the coming years.
Highlighting the growing popularity of Sambhar Salt Lake, Shekhawat noted that the destination has evolved beyond its historical and religious importance to become a preferred location for pre-wedding shoots, professional photography and astro-tourism. Key festival venues will include Jhapok, Sambhar Salt Campus, Devyani Teerth Sarovar and the main fairground.
Sambhar Mahotsav 2025 will present a vibrant mix of culture and adventure. Visitors can explore art and craft stalls, local handicrafts exhibitions and photography displays reflecting Rajasthan’s distinct cultural identity. Colourful kite-flying displays will enhance the festive atmosphere, while adventure activities such as paramotoring, parasailing, ATV rides and adventure biking are expected to attract youth and thrill-seekers.
Nature enthusiasts will have the opportunity to participate in bird-watching tours, salt lake safaris and guided visits to the salt production sites. For spiritually inclined visitors, the festival will feature Deepotsav, Maha Aarti and illuminated religious landmarks, offering a serene and enriching experience.
The festival lineup will also include folk street performances, celebrity evenings, heritage walks, cycling tours, camel and horse rides, along with a specially designed kids’ zone, making it a wholesome, family-friendly event.
According to the Tourism Department, Sambhar Mahotsav 2025 is expected to significantly boost the local economy while reinforcing Rajasthan’s reputation as a leading experience-driven international tourism destination.
