Mixing Compressed biogas in CNG-PNG

Mandatory blending of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) with CNG and PNG in City Gas Distribution (CGD) areas will start. This information has been shared by Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri. Blending will be voluntary in the financial year 2024-25 while mandatory blending obligation will be applicable from 2025- 26. There will be mandatory blending of 1% in the initial year, then 3% in 2026-27, 4% in 2027-28 and 5% in 2028-29. CBG Blending Obligation (CBO) will promote the production and consumption of CBG in the country. The National Biofuels Coordination Committee, chaired by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, has announced mandatory blending of CBG in CNG (transport) and PNG (domestic) on November 24. It aims to increase demand for CBG, save foreign exchange, promote a circular economy and help in achieving the goal of net zero emissions.
